My busy day left me quite tired, and the presence of two little cats on top of the afghan which was on top of me contributed to my oversleeping. This is something I (almost) never do!!

Theoretically I could make it to work in time. However, the traffic gods had different ideas.

I didn't have the secretary's number (or department office number) in my phone or written down on something in my bag. I called Verizon's 411, got the Xavier number, but the stupid switchboard doesn't open till 8:30. I got there at 8:07, lucked out with a handicapped spot (good thing I had the card) and dashed over to my building as fast as I could hobble. And met two of my students coming off the elevator. It was "legal"--by then it was 8:15 and the unwritten rule is ten minutes. They said they'd taken roll and left it with the department secretary. I then went on up to the third floor classroom, where about a third of them were hanging out. I apologized, went over some of the vocab words, then my phone rang. It was the secretary. I assured her I was totally alive, and when I went back to the second floor got her cell number and put it in my phone.

I couldn't think of any reason to hang around any longer, so I went to Newcomb and got a halfway decent parking spot under a big tree.

My day there was productive, and I see the end in sight for my current processing project. I talked to the curator of archives and told her what other goodies were there--videos, tapes, a CD, and actual artwork. Those are not my problem.

Henceforth, I shall set TWO alarms.

Tomorrow will be an at home day, and I have all sorts of resolves related to the yard.

Oh--speaking of the yard, this morning there was a rabbit nibbling on the green stuff in the "lawn." And it was there when I got home this afternoon. Lady just looked at it. He's(?) probably bigger than she is.

And last night I heard "visitor" noises, opened the door and turned on the light, and there was a raccoon who apparently felt comfortable enough to just sit there by where the food was and look at me.

That's only the second time in ten (or more, if you count TA teaching) years of teaching that I've missed a class.
