Grading is one of the down sides of teaching, but it lets the instructor know the level of comprehension of various people in the class. For example, the one who didn't hear me say "answer everything but the essay questions on the exam itself."

But---these are mostly first semester freshmen and who knows whether that's what they did for their previous teachers.

I got everything but the essay questions done this afternoon, and I have fewer essay questions than I usually do. I WILL have these done to hand back Monday morning.

Usually I have a bonus essay question, and it's based on reserve readings at the library. Well, the big notebook full of my readings went for a swim when the levees broke. So did the first floor computers and any books stacked below about six feet. I shall be gradually replacing them as the semester goes on.

I did my weekend grocery/gas run this morning. The skies looked cloudy and the weather map suggested there might be some showers. However, we stayed dry today. And the raccoons now have food again. I'm sure they were upset to find the ice chest empty last night.

So, the bottom line is that today has been a REALLY IUD.
