But only until tomorrow.
I stopped at the car place this morning (after teaching my class) and left my car. An hour or so later I got a call saying that the power steering pump didn't need replacing--just fresh fluid. And the timing belt showed no signs of wear, even though the car has about 68,000 miles on it. We settled for the power steering fluid, an oil change (only about 10K miles overdue on that one) and a plea for a "fix" with the windshield washer fluid system. The fluid storage unit got nibbled on by rodents shortly after the 8 acres of woods west of me was levelled, and the rodents displaced from their habitat. The fact that the system as a whole was not checked out is just one of the reason I have changed mechanics. So, I will get my car back tomorrow, and the bill will be less than what is was expected to be. About the most constructive thing I've done since I've been back home was to take an extended afternoon nap. Well--it was really a bit cold for outdoor work, and I'd been up since just after 4 AM for the first time in a week. So a nap was totally justified. Work was "different"--the fire alarm went off about ten minutes into the class. Most people used the stairs, but several us figured that since the "do not use" sign on the elevator was not lit up, we'd chance it. (The class is on the third floor of a building with VERY high ceilings. I did NOT want to hobble down the stairs.) When I had arrived at 7 there was a little light flashing on a security panel. I was going to call somebody about it, but I couldn't find the Xavier telephone directory. So, the building emptied quietly and in a calm manner and we all stood outside for a bit in the cold almost-drizzle. Finally someone in a maintenance uniform came by and said it was okay to go back in. Only problem was that more than half of the people in my class who had been there at 8 AM didn't return. Due note will be taken of who did return. And I shall have a bonus question on the next test based on things I talked about today. So today was NOT an IUD.
