Back to my Newcomb job today, and I got going on a small collection. When processed it will take up just one carton. Probably. I might be able to squeeze it into a box.
(A carton is what 12 reams of paper come in. A box is the same height and width, but only about 6" or 7" across.) The collection revolves around the autobiography of a Newcomb graduate (class of '21). She wrote it and self-published it for her children and other family members. It's not so much the book that is significant, but the process she went through writing it. It has letters trying to track down distant ancestors. There are reminiscences from other family members (and it was a huge family.) Last but not least, it has all the drafts she went through on the way to publication. I should just about finish it tomorrow, and have it done by quitting time Tuesday. (I have an appointment Monday so won't be going that day.) Driving home was "interesting" today. I got a phone call as I was headed east on the interstate. No particular problems there, except that it's hard to hang onto a cell phone with knit gloves on, even if there are those bumpy things so you hands don't slip on the steering wheel. And then there was a traffic slowdown in my lane, and the truck two vehicles ahead swerved onto the shoulder, as did the next car. It was then my turn, and I too swerved to avoid the broken glass on the roadway. And just ahead two cars were at the side of the road, and the first one was REALLY smashed in the back end. The rear bumper was almost in the back seat. However, there didn't appear to be any injuries and I didn't hear sirens in the distance. I finished the phone call, and then just as I got on the old bridge the phone rang again. The lab person was calling with results of yesterday's "donation" and the news that she needed yet another specimen. Their time and my work hours do not coordinate for tomorrow, so I told her I'd be there Monday. The rest of the drive home was uneventful. This cold spell is making for very friendly cats. They also appreciate the floor vents for the heat. Fabian settles himself quite comfortably over the one in the hall and roasts his tummy. I have to watch where I'm going so I don't trip over him. Lady likes to curl up in a cozy spot on me at night. She weighs so little I'm hardly aware she's there. I bought a bag of satsumas on the way home. (There's a truck that sells from the roadside.) I found one of them a bit mushy on one side, so I took out the good sections, then tossed the squished bit out onto the patio. I do believe some of my woods critters came by and took it away. And that's it for today. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
