. . . like any other day

A day like any other day, except hardly anyone seemed to be around. The librarian wasn't there, but a student worker appeared late in the morning.

No students came by the library, and I saw relatively few walking on campus. Spring semester started Monday. Maybe they didn't like the chilly air?

There were a couple of visits from a Maintenance man. Cuban Studies, which occupies a small space at one end of the building, does not get any heat from the system, so they use space heaters. And they frequently pop the circuit breakers. These, of course, are in the main part of the building--the library. At one point I was the only one in the library and because of that had the door locked. When I heard the maintenance man at the door, I got up to let him in so he could reset the circuit breakers--all of which are in the library. (That's how I learned about the heatless Cuban Studies people.)

Tomorrow is supposed to be really disgusting weather--cold and rainy--so I had about decided to skip coming in. Instead I'm going to the dentist. Just a routine checkup. When I called the office his wife (who does the bookkeeping etc.) chatted a bit, then told me she'd just had a cancellation and would I like 9 AM tomorrow. Well, that's going to work out fine.

I've been going to the same dentist since 1976--when we moved back here. As I recall, at my first visit he found a small cavity and asked if I wanted him to take care of it then. He definitely was not overwhelmed with patients at that time. He's not cheap, but he does outstanding work with crowns and bridges. Before Katrina he had taken on an associate, but I think that fell through post-storm.

With the current cold spell the cats have become extremely afffectionate. They know that next to another warm body is a good place to sleep. They don't cuddle with each other, but instead keep me warm. And virtually immobile. And they get extremely upset if I have to make a pit stop in the middle of the night. How DARE I disturb them!

Current reading is Patricia Cornwell's Book of the Dead, but I think I mentioned that the other day. It's very easy to keep on reading and reading. If I take that with me tomorrow I will probably get in right after I have read two sentences.

Today's Wild Words from a Wild Woman are an Elizabeth Taylor quote: "I'm a very committed wife. And I should be committed, too--for being married so many times."
