Today we had nasty weather once I had gotten to work. Naturally, because it was sunny I didn't bother taking an umbrella with me, other than the little one that folds to about 6" long and is always in my bag.
Therefore, it rained. And poured, and then rained some more. I was very glad I was parked on the high side of the road. As I was eating lunch I watched the sky get darker and darker. When I went back downstairs (I'd been upstairs copying the pages of a scrapbook) I checked out the weather on the computer. It did not look good. Our secretary thought at first that he'd need to move his car and was all set to borrow my umbrella, but then he realized he was also parked on the high side and there was no need to get wet. So, I figured that in about half an hour there would be a break in the torrential rain and I could drive home in reasonable safety. I was right. There was still fairly deep (ankle deep) water to get through to get to my car, so I took off my socks and rolled up my slacks, opened up the pink umbrella, and got to my car with only my shoes getting wet. (These are washable shoes.) The drive home was remarkably free of traffic slowdowns, and I'd guessed right about the rain intensity. I was going to swing through Popeye's and get a seafood sub, but the power was off in that part of town. (Maybe tomorrow.) So, I made it home in the usual time. Lady came to greet me, and then Emma appeared from the garage to also say hello. I fed the regular cats, then put out some dry food for Emma. She gave a bit more thought about coming in, but decided against it. I also put out a treat for the raccoons tonight, in addition to apple cores. I'd bought one of those round watermelons when I saw it down to $3. I had a big chunk of it for supper, and I'm sure you all know what I did with the rind. I even cut it into smaller pieces. The forecast for tomorrow is windy, but dry. Good--and it will probably be cooler. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
