An official day off, although I might have stayed home anyway. I feel committed to putting in three days a week at the Center. As someone once said, a good volunteer treats the job as if it was a paying one.

So, I did some tidying and some personal bookkeeping. That led to filing old bills, but first I had to clean out the really old ones. No wonder that stack on the table is so high--it appears that the last time I filed bills was more than a year ago.

I'd just started when I was saved by the bell--YD was on the phone suggesting that today would be a great day for her to take me up on my lunch offer.

We had a really nice lunch (I had spinach salad with fried oysters) and then I went to see if my blood was red enough. It wasn't, but it was a lot closer than the last time I checked.

Next stop was the bank to deposit a check I'd been holding for more than four months. Just about all my regular income is done now by direct deposit, so I seldom have a reason to go to the bank.

I was lucky--no line.

Then PJ's and geek reading, followed by a quick stop at WalMart for beast food, among other things.

So, it's been an active day. Tomorrow it's up early and back to work. I think they said it would be a bunch colder too. Well, when it's cold it seldom rains, since the cold comes in a high pressure system.

YD told me that a friend who is a science fiction writer will be in town at some point for research--but also to do a workshop at the high school OGD attends afternoons. NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts) is a specialty high school, and OGD goes there in the afternoons for the Creative Writing curriculum.

YD and I talked a bit about what this guy was working on, and I was able to give her some names (which I need to put in an e-mail) that might be helpful to him.

So, an interesting day--and very enjoyable.
