At one point there were just three people at the Center--me, the secretary, and the assistant archivist. And the last two were upstairs. Talk about a slow day!! After lunch a student worker appeared in the library. Just before that a woman came by with a problem about a book. I couldn't help her with it, but I made a copy of the problem for the librarian. I think she said she tried to return a Newcomb book via the drop depository at Howard Tilton (the big Tulane library.) Apparently they have not yet figured out that the book with Newcomb printed all over is not from their collection.

It's a good book--Laurie King's A Monstrous Regiment of Women. It's early in her series about Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes and topic is votes for women. I've read at LEAST a half dozen books in the series and enjoyed every one.

I got an early enough start this morning that I ran into no traffic slowdowns. And I left work in time to avoid the afternoon ones. That departure was not deliberate--it was prompted by a large dark cloud that was leaking. I checked the weather radar, then headed for my car during a dry spell. I had a little rain, but I was ahead of the rain cloud within ten minutes.

As I got near my turnoff to take the old bridge I couldn't help but notice the large number of orange and white barrels all over the place. Obviously, they were used when the interstate was blocked because of the acid spill. And I wasn't curious enough about the accident site to take that route home. It's three miles longer, with a LOT more traffic.

Time to eat a few more strawberries so the critters will have a treat with the stems.

One of the New Orleans Hornets has been selected for the Olympic team. Hey--the Hornets did pretty well this year, so it should come as no surprise that they have a player going to Beijing.
