I slept lousy last night, undoubtedly because there was less (as in almost no) breeze.

There is a big brouhaha about re-entering New Orleans. The surrounding parishes are welcoming back evacuees. New Orleans says wait another day (except for key personnel)and to enforce it they have NOPD officers stopping people on I-10 as they come off the Twin Span bridges across Lake Pontchartrain and asking for ID. Those from New Orleans get turned back unless they have a special priority card. OMG--can you say traffic backup?

11 AM update: The news says New Orleans gave up on the turn-back. Many of these evacuees left at the beginning of the weekend and have been in motels since then, running up some good-sized bills. With the hurricane passed, they are willing to put up with adversity for a while.

Also in the news--Jefferson Parish (just west of New Orleans): The Powers That Be have issued an edict: don't drink the water, and don't flush.

Earlier - about 0930 - I went off to charge my cell phone. PJ's was open. And I just got a call from OD saying the PJ's near the Mall area was also open. Both have wireless internet.

Talked to YD. Their flight home got cancelled. Instead, they'll fly into Gulfport and rent a car.

Still no power in my area (as of a couple of hours ago).

Before (and during) the storm there were nice breezes, but now the air is quite still.

And that more or less ends the saga of Gustav.

Back to MIUL.
