No check valve in the water line leading to the ice maker in the old fridge.

And the installers aren't allowed to mess with it, even if I shut off all the water.

So, I now have a giant black box--somewhat reminiscent of the 2001 monolith--in one end of the den. And I need to find a plumber to install the check valve, or at least to disconnect the water line.

The guys were really nice, and once the water line is disconnected they will be back to take away the old one.

As I was putting stuff back in the old one, the head guy spotted some popsicles that said DIET. He took a better look, said he was diabetic, and had really missed popsicles. I offered them to him, but he settled on just taking two--one for him and one for his partner.

The cats are somewhat confused by all the goings on.

Speaking of cats, I was watching the noon news and I heard a cat enter the house meowing strangely.

When Lady got to the den I could see why. She set a dead rat down next to me. I praised her mightily, and then disposed of her "gift." She was very proud of it. She's a good little huntress.

Other than the fridge and the rat, an IUD.
