It's the end of the week and the end of the month.
AND--only three more days of campaign commercials. (Well, maybe some candidates will run them on election day to be on the safe side.) I went in to work today and got a lot done. I may have mentioned something about an art project going on in the library. If I didn't, well--there's been an art project going on in the library for more than a week now. It's about the importance of archives and collections to memory. I think it's called "The Vestiges Project." There is quite a bunch of women involved with it, and some of the items that have been appearing are quite interesting. There is a seamstress's dummy--with a waist that can't be more than twenty inches. And furniture pieces, pictures, etc. Very imaginative. My carrel faces the street, and there are floor-to-ceiling windows. In the morning the sun comes in straight into my left eyeball. As the morning passes it moves a bit forward. To counter that, I first just taped a piece of paper on the window, but soon I realized that wasn't going to be enough. I had a nice large World Wildlife Fund calendar and started putting up the gorgeous baby animal pictures as their month ended. The end result is a large montage of animal pictures, mixed in with some Georgia O'Keefe flowers from another calendar. And no sunbeams in the eyeball. But the ladies weren't sure what to do about that display, since I need the window covered. They finally made up a "shade" of their own, which completely covers what I'd put up. The interesting part is that they didn't know what my function was, and were pleasantly surprised when they learned that I was working with archival materials. I think they are finishing up today or tomorrow. I have no idea how long the exhibit will be there. I hope that it will get covered in the newspaper. And now I have the weekend ahead of me. I definitely will not be going in on Tuesday, and I may not on Monday. Monday will probably depend on the weather and on my energy level.
