We had our brief moments of winter this morning. The morning show I watch stayed on the air an extra three hours.
There were some great sights from just a little northwest of where I am--such as a reporter making a snow angel. Schools were closed at the other end of the parish. The school YGD goes to brought the kindergarteners to the "big school" where there were assorted activities. They showed videos of kids in New Orleans at one of the major parks using boogie boards as sleds. By noon, however, the snow had ended and by about 2 PM most of it was gone in my area. There was still some on my car, but by late afternoon there was almost no evidence of the morning snowfall. This is the earliest in local meteorological records that there has been snow in New Orleans. The last time was Christmas day, 2004. There was also a very heavy snowfall in 1989--the year OD and husband moved here and set up their practice. And the year we originally came to New Orleans--1963--had a doozie of a storm New Year's Eve. There was about two feet in our yard, and Tulane stadium had to be shoveled out for the Sugar Bowl. This evening will be spent watching the Saints play against the Chicago Bears--in Chicago. I don't think it snowed there, although I could easily be mistaken.
