Couldn't ask for better, weather-wise. The air is low 70s, the humidity low, and the wild cherry trees are blooming.

Just in time, too--the azaleas are shedding the last of their various pink/fuschia flowers.

The weeds are growing enthusiastically also, but we won't talk about that. I have a couple of giant thistles in the driveway. If I put off pulling them out for a while I'll be rewarded by some pretty purplish flowers. And if I get the thistle trimmed back/dug up before the flowers go into floating seeds, I won't be spreading the plague.

I need to cross fingers re: weather and plan on an attack this weekend.

Two topics lead off the local news--the oil spill, of course is first. There is talk of burning the oil on the surface before it gets to the marshes and really messes up habitats for shrimp, oysters, etc.

The other topic is the upcoming mayoral inauguration in New Orleans. One of his first jobs as mayor is to appoint a new police superintendent. That is really a lousy job (superintendent)--it seems like you cannot keep everybody happy AND cut the crime rate. Politics--it's present everywhere.

And speaking of police chief--this Saturday (I think) Slidell has an election to replace the former police chief who was just elected mayor. Top candidate appears to be the former mayor--who was police chief before he became mayor.

I don't get to vote in that--I'm outside city limits.

I wonder if--eight years from now--they'll be switching jobs again.

Hey--Slidell is a relatively small town--what do you expect?

I had a letter from my chiropractor the other day--he's celebrating his 50th birthday by giving discount coupons to his patients--and some to pass on to potential new patients.

He has NOT aged--looks about the same as he did 30-some yrs. ago when I first met him.

Back to whatever I was doing before this.
