Gorgeous day, that is.

Temperature in low 70s, sky bright and sunny.

HOWEVER -- The winds are from the south and east. And that's where the massive oil spill is.

Strictly speaking, it's not a spill--it's coming from a well at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Said well had a little "accident" which not only killed a bunch of people, but now has the whatever that capped the pipe and controlled the flow broken. So the oil continues to pour out.

Already there are about 30 miles of booms which will theoretically limit the coastal damage. That is, as long as there's no drastic weather change.

It's a really bad situation for the whole northeastern Gulf coast.

I may give my friend in Mobile a call and find out what their newscasters are saying. (But I'll wait till after 7 PM.)

It hasn't been a particularly noteworthy day--mostly I've been puttering around doing this and that.

The wild cherry trees continue to erupt in fragrant blooms. They are pretty in the spring, provide a certain amount of shade in the summer, and the birds and squirrels eat most of the fruit.

The pits get excreted, which is why there are so many wild cherry trees and bushes of varying sizes.

I can see that it's starting to darken up a bit, so time to put out the critter crunchies.
