Definitely one of those!

The news continues to be depressing regarding the oil spill. Finger-pointing is (as usual) the 0rder of the Day.

It didn't rain--at least not yet. (And that likelihood is pretty dim.)

My big "outing" was to Walgreen's, where I got stupid stuff like flea spray and vitamins.

It was definitely a hot one and I was glad to get back to my house that stays surprisingly cool, between the large number of trees and the breezes--not to mention careful placement of fans.

About ten minutes after I put out the raccoon chow (aka dry cat food) this evening there was one of them getting ready to start eating. I was inside, about ten feet away, and the screen door was closed. When he(?) looked uncertain as to whether to eat I went back out of his sight.

Sometimes they don't run off, but linger cautiously when I talk quietly to them.

After it gets more or less dark I'll toss out the raccoon biscuits.

And try to decide which book to read next.

I finished Lulu in Marrakech (by Diane Johnson) last night, then zipped through a short Janet Evanovich--Naughty Neighbor. It was cute.

Now I have to decide what will be next on the reading list. There are several in the stack.

If I'm sufficiently bored tomorrow I may drive into New Orleans and see for myself what the parking/sidewalk, etc. situation is at Tulane. It doesn't sound too friendly to people who have less than perfect ambulation. They're redoing the street in front of the women's center and the librarian said to get in you had to go way around a fence. And there was no parking on the street in front because it's all torn up. Tulane is borderline compliant with federal guidelines regarding handicapped.

The women's center building also houses Cuban Studies at one end. If those people need to use the rest room they have to go outside and walk almost the length of the building to the Women's Center entrance, then go in there to get to the rest rooms.

There is an elevator--but it's back in the nether regions and was designed for freight. If I used that to get upstairs, I'd get out and be in the back part of a storage area. Oh--and I'd need a key for the elevator.

I'm hoping tomorrow has 2/3 decent weather so I can get yard stuff done. If I start early enough I'll beat (most of) the heat.

And from my Word A Day calendar--A boondoggle "is a braided cord worn by Boy Scouts as a neckerchief slide, hatband, or ornament."

It's also a "useless or wasteful project or activity."
