Another raccoon visitor--in broad daylight.
I started outside and there was a smallish albino raccoon, with teats hanging down. Actually, I think this is one of Mama Goldie's daughters from last year. She's got the same coloration. Last year, or the year before, a mama albino raccoon (their coats are almost gold, with brown "trim") discovered the critter cafeteria I maintain. I think today's mama and the standard color one the other day, are very likely her offspring, who remember the goodies. Today's was apparently very hungry--she came rather close to me, and was in a big hurry to get to the goodies on the front porch. She was eating by the time I got inside. She was close enough to pet, if I was an utter idiot. (One has to be careful of possible rabies in woods critters.) The cats and she looked at each other, but apparently there is no antagonism, and the critters respect the cats' territory--especially since they are willing to share the food. (A certain calimese tabby cat is making writing somewhat difficult. She of the flailing tail is taking up more than her fair share of the card table.) The weather is starting to show the effects of whatever the current Gulf storm is named. The good news (for Louisiana) is that it will make landfall along the Mexican coast, with really heavy weather extending into lower Texas. The bad news is that it exists. It is playing havoc with cleanup attempts of the oil spill and, in fact, has effectively shut down cleanup efforts. Meanwhile, the storm is driving more oil onto the beaches all along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Florida. This morning I called the assessor's office about the second notice, and got a very nice young woman who was extremely helpful. She said I was okay on everything. then checked the computer to see if I had my name on any other properties. (I suspect she mentally rolled her eyes at the second notice going out a couple of months after the tax had been paid.) She then checked the computer to see if I had my name on any other properties. Well, yes--I (and my late husband) had gone on record as co-owners of the first houses the kids bought. (Basically, we loaned them our credit.) I know that OD and husband refinanced and our names are gone from that one, but it's still in the assessor's computer. (This doesn't say too much for the system--guess they don't bother to keep up to date on changes. Either that or the person searching didn't check the latest, etc.) She did, however, verify that I'm listed as a Senior Citizen. That (supposedly) gives me some sort of tax break. Whatever. In the afternoon I went to PJ's for a while, and left just as it started drizzling. My supper (and tomorrow's lunch) were catered by Popeye's. Even their two-piece meal goes a long way. The next couple of days willl no doubt be soggy and dreary, and I will be checking weather radar fairly frequently. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
