The latest weather report shows another area of the Gulf starting to exhibit hints of tropical weather.

Not good.

Other than that, nothing much happening.

One of my large (freestanding) fans appears to have died. I've taken off the blades etc. and cleaned them, but the motor doesn't seem to want to run. (Yes, I plugged it into a "live" outlet.)

I've had the fan for quite a few years, and they're starting to get marked down in the stores. My repair skills are currently limited to cleaning and oiling. I did both, so now it goes out for a secoond chance on Freecycle.

I've almost finished Pirate Latitudes, so doing that is my agenda for this evening.

A friend sent me a t-shirt with a gorgeous picture of a raccoon on it. If I was still teaching I just might wear it into work. (I may, however, wear it to church.)

Today the last Space Shuttle external fuel tank rolled out of the Michoud facility and headed toward Cape Canaveral via barge.

One could say that the U. S. "won" the so-called Space Race, but it was only the sort-term section. I cannot help but wonder (sadly) if Earthlings will reach further into space.

What if Columbus et.al. had quit exploring when they crossed the Atlantic--and returned back home to stay?

Oh that's right--there were the "promises" of riches etc. And a place to take the population overflow.

Enough for now.
