Little Mama came by about noon looking for food. So, I put out the dry food early.
I had planned to, and was sitting in a chair on the porch when she came through the hole in the screen. She stopped about two feet from me and looked at me pleadingly. I talked to her, telling her to wait just a minute or so. She backed off about a step and I filled the dish, then pushed it a little further from me. (Canes are really very handy things.) Next thing, a somewhat smaller version in traditional raccoon colors came in. A dirty look from Mama, and (s)he backed off and ate from another plate. So--I tossed a bunch of raccoon biscuits out onto the patio, then headed off to PJ's for some cool quiet for reading etc. (And an iced coffee.) WalMart is on the way home, so I stocked up on (hopefully) enough critter food for the next few days. (And bought a ready-made salad at the deli section.) Haven't had any rain today. So much for Bonnie, not that I'm complaining. I hope the rest of the tropical season's weather events treat us that kindly. The driveway is looking much more like a driveway now, with that big heap of trimmings reduced to a VERY small pile of ashes. Burn pile #1 died out leaving a bit of a hump. My plans now are to try to rake it even, then really hit the drvieway/parking area with weed killer. (With my luck, there will be torrential rain before it really soaks in.) Hoping the weather tomorrow is as dry as today--although the price of dryness is heat. If I get an early start I can make some more progress on the yard work.
