We're talking 90s here, when we say hot.

Fortunately, the temperature comes with a high pressure system--meaning it's clear.

While rain would cool things down somewhat, the humidity would go up and make the heat feel even worse.

I went to church this morning and casually mentioned something about it being my birthday.

When it came to time to light candles for various things, the greeter I had talked with headed up front, and announced that he was lighting a candle for my 75th birthday.

By that time I was up front, so I lit one for me also.

The minister we had today was the one I'd given the Saints tickets to last year. I'll probably pass along a pair this year also.

When I told her (last year) that the parking space was on the roof of the parking garage and people tailgated there, she and her husband went all out and posted every detail of the experience, including the search for just the right tailgating foods.

Later in the afternoon my next door neighbor came over to chat, and she got a treat.

We were sitting on the front porch and a raccoon came by and stuck its head in the hole in the screen that the cats have created for easy exit and reached in and pulled a dish of dry food close enough to nibble at. The cat watched the whole process while the raccoon ate about four or five feet from us.

Only its head was inside, but my neighbor was rather impressed by it being so close. Raccoons have really expressive little faces.

I haven't completely decided whether to go in to work tomorrow, but I'm leaning that way. I need to check how much gas I have. I'm not particularly inclined to go out this evening just to get gas, so if the tank is low I'll get gas tomorrow and go in to work Tuesday.

(That's one of the advantages of having a volunteer job--flexibility of hours. I try to go in two or three days a week--depending on what else is going on and whether it's raining or not.)

Technically, I won't be 75 until 11:58 PM, but who cares.
