Went to church, and afterwards ended up in an extended "socialization" with a couple of other women.
It's a small church, and through a variety of circumstances (including Katrina) is currently full-time ministerless. There are two other UU churches in the New Orleans area, and the ministers of those manage to cover all three churches. This means that 1/3 of the time we don't have a "regular" minister. Somehow, things work out though. I really like the people--and the "philosophy." When I finally did get home I watched the Saints/Chicago game. I had passed my tickets along to YD's husband, who made large numbers of brownie points with a client by giving him the tickets. And the Saints soundly defeated the Chicago team. There is a special feeling of--shall we say "antipathy"--toward Chicago that dates back several years to a playoff game between the Saints and the Chicago team. The fans were VERY hostile toward the Saints fans who had gone to Chicago for the game. They pelted them with snowballs and other stuff and earned Chicago a reputation for have very poor sports for fans. However, New Orleanians know that tourism is part of their "industrial" base, and reciprocation in kind is seriously frowned on. We "get even" by thoroughly trouncing them on the field, and happily accepting their tourism dollars. And here's a bit of linguistic trivia: my word-a-day calendar has "miniscule" as the word for Saturday, and its opposite as today's word. What is that? "majuscule." I don't think I've ever run across majuscule in anything I've read. The first definition of miniscule is given as "1. written in or in the style of lowercase letters;" and the second (and primary definition) is " very small." And majuscule? "a large letter (as a capital.)" That's it for today. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
