2012-04-18 6:57 PM Somewhat Hectic Read/Post Comments (2) |
If you didn't read yesterday's comments, do it now, so you have background on my rather hectic morning.
I had urgent banking business to take care of, and I managed to make it to the bank within 30 minutes of its opening. My "regular" banker saw me coming, and waved me in. She took care of my banking business, and we chatted a bit. Then I went back home, certain that I'd remember other things needing doing right after I'd gone inside. Either I'd remembered that stuff already or had picked up leftover brain waves from earlier thinking. I did not have to run out again to take care of things forgotten. When I was a kid (in New Jersey) we'd had a nasty hurricane that took out several trees, and left one cracked about 6 ft. above ground level and resting on the (imported) tile roof. This was in the early 1940s, and if you know your history you'll understand why we could not get matching Dutch tiles to repair it. The repair people did manage to get a halfway decent match, and after a few years the new ones pretty much blended in with old ones. I'm hoping YD etc. do not have any extensive delay in getting their roof etc. fixed. (Ditto for anyone else who suffered damage with yesterday's storm.) New Orleans, as usual, has big events going on. This weekend (week?) it's the U.S. Navy in town, with LOTS of big vessels parked in the Mississippi. If I had school-age kids I'd be fighting the traffic to visit the ones that are open. And to look at the unique and/or unusual ships that are also docked here at the moment. I don't recall anywhere NEAR the amount of activity on the river when we lived here in the mid 60s. Of course, Pete was working a heavy schedule with the missile sites, and the overall "peace" (internationally) was nowhere near the level it is now. (And my walking wasn't hindered by two substitute hips.) The sun has almost set, and the sky is rapidly darkening. Time to shut down the computer and veg out with the TV and a good crossword book.
