One slight advantage of minimal air conditioning is that my clothing is usually wet. And that acts as a coolant, especially when there is a nearby fan.

It gets even nicer when I'm in the air-conditioned computer room.

I haven't heard any weather reports/forecasts this evening so I can't try to impress you with data. Anyway, I doubt that it's record-breaking--it feels too familiar.

Dang--just glanced at my word-a-day calendar and I see I have a dr. appt. in the morning.

Guess I'll just do a thorough wipe-down before I go to bed, then have a proper shower in the morning.

Not much unusual going on around here, unless you count the underwater "levee" the Corps of Engineers is building near the mouth of the Mississippi.

Why are they doing this? Because salt water from the Gulf has a strong currennt and is trying to go up the river.

Why is this bad?

Because the Mississippi is the water source for all sorts of towns, villages, etc. as one heads upstrem.

I don't recall hearing of that happening recently or very frequently. But it makes sense--and when you think about how far upstream the head of the Mississippi is--and how many towns etc. draw their water from it, it's easy to see why there is concern.

And if anyone wants more info about this, check out the New Orleans Times-Picayune/States-Item.

Yes, that is the full name of the newspaper. It used to be that the morning paper was the Times-Picayune, and the evening one was (you guessed it) the States-Item. (And once upon a time (before we moved here) there were four papers.)

At least it's just over a month till the summer season is over, and we are in Autumn (Fall) for about three monthe.
