Happy Beltane!! [Edit: Haddayr points out that it's properly spelled Bealtaine Lá. And she would know!] (That's a link to an article Heather wrote about the holiday. She was working on it when we first met, so this date always stirs up happy memories...)

Heather and I are reading at the Ping•Pong Launch Party this Saturday evening. (The schedule linked above isn't totally accurate, since it turns out Charlie Anders can't make it, and Heather is reading in her slot.) It's free, held at the Henry Miller Memorial Library in beautiful Big Sur. Come down if you can. Wine, cheese, words, music, etc. Starts at 5 p.m.

John Klima's anthology Logorrhea is out today! Go forth and buy! Includes my novelette "From Around Here," which is one of the best things I've written, I think, about a genius loci who's lost his loci, and so wanders the Earth looking for a new home, however temporary. (I wrote the story after reading about some islands that sank, and thinking about what would happen to the spirit of a place when that place literally ceases to exist...) It's set in Oakland. Actually it's set in my neighborhood, pretty much. Reviews for the anthology have been very good. There are a couple in the May issue of Locus, and both rave especially about Daniel Abraham's and Theodora Goss's stories, which I'm very much looking forward to reading, since they're two of my favorite story writers. The whole line-up looks awesome, though.

Heroes last night was great. I've always been a big fan of "what-if" comics, and that was some serious Age of Apocalypse-style shit. It's become one of my favorite shows.

Bad dreams lately. Getting lost, being chased, explosions. (The explosion dream was the night a tanker truck blew up and melted the freeway about five miles from my house, which is an interesting coincidence.) Not sure what the source of the anxiety is, but my subconscious is certainly working some kind of kinks out. I wish it well.
