2003-10-11 12:54 AM Dear God, will this baseball game ever be over? Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) Actually, the Cubs finally have the Marlins down to their final out (albeit in the 11th inning), hold on ...*Cubs 3B drops grounder while trying to throw to first, and Marlins baserunner Luis Castillo gets caught in a rundown for the final out* ... well THAT was certainly interesting.
One of the very few things I hate about living on the East Coast is how late all the televised sports start and, thus, finish. In the Central Time Zone, games start at 7 or 7:30, finishing at 10:30 normally, and even an extra inning affair like this one is over well before midnight. It's absolutely perfect timing ... you have time to eat dinner before, or you can wait and eat dinner during without starving, and you finish in time to go to bed (assuming a regular 40 hr/wk job) without totally throwing your sleep schedule off. And if you are a sports nut, you can easily catch at least the first half of West Coast games, too. I don't think I'd like the West Coast either, because the games start practically in mid-afternoon. It is one of the few things television does that can not be affected by the Either Coast Bias, but of course time has proven rather elusive for them to control. Thus far. I'm a little loopy ... it's the Friday before OU-TX and out of habit I feel I should have the day off. OU traditionally cancels classes today because large numbers of students skip anyway to drive down to Dallas for the game. If we win, we also get Monday off. I got Monday off twice while I was in school. Some people think it's silly that we cancel school for a football game, but OU does not have any other fall break, so I think it's a fair trade-off. Actually I guess I did have the day off, since I didn't have any classes or work, but I did MAJOR laundry so it didn't exactly feel like a holiday. But tomorrow I'm going out to Susan's to watch the game with our small collection of OU alums transplanted to New York - New Jersey. Go Sooners!
