2003-11-15 4:27 PM I apologize for being so football obsessed lately. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I think it had something to do with being a little down about other things -- namely that I was having a pretty serious case of writer's block. What little I did manage to write in the last two weeks was almost entirely scrapped when I finally went back to do another revision. But thinkfully, I did finish that particular story and I'm much happier with it now. Also, I wrote four pages of a completely new story that I'm really happy with, and the particularly difficult section of my thesis (this is the third time I've started it completely over) is finally starting to come out the way I want it. Plus, I typed in two thesis sections I wrote before the writer's block and sent them off to my advisor.
This new story I'm working on is exciting because it's a number of firsts for me. It's my first attempt at a Christmas story. It's also my first story that deals heavily with dance; two of the main characters are professional dancers. This is a big deal for me because, though I have danced my entire life, I've never been really comfortable writing about it for some reason. It is also my first gay main character -- the interesting thing about that is that there was never a concious decision on my part to make her gay or straight. I just thought of this woman, and suddenly she was in love with a ballerina. Anyway, I'm excited because I feel like my range of characters is really expanding. I'm no longer limited to writing stories about straight, single, white women in their early twenties. (A stretch used to be straight, single, white women in middle age -- one time I wrote about a middle aged guy who was worried about his daughter, a straight, single, white, woman in her early twenties. ) Well, I must go now because I am hitting the mall with Susan to do some early-bird Christmas shopping. Enjoy your weekend! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
