I've postdated this post to December so it will be up on the home page for a month (if I dated it today it would disappear as soon as I post in December). In today's NY Times, there is an article about the overwhelming food shortage faced by food banks all over the country, due to a combination of factors that have decreased donations just as demand is increasing. So I would just like to suggest that everyone make either a monetary or food donation to your local food bank -- either as part of your Christmas charitable giving or just because it is a good thing to do.

My Oklahoma readers can go to the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank website to find out how to donate. Meanwhile, the Food Bank for New York City is currently soliciting donations to go with a matching donation offer from WaMu, so now is a good time to give. More information is available here.
