On the old story submission front--received yesterday one rejection. This morning I sent it out again, along with another story, and submitted a query to yet a third (they want queries before submission--go figure).

So a while back, Editor X of ZYX Magazine announced that they were looking for someone for a certain monthly task. (Yes, I'm being purposely vague here.) After months of waiting (with one follow-up in December) I finally heard from Editor X stating that after careful consideration that they were going to hire Person ABCD, but that I came in second--if that was any consolation.

Okay--it was somewhat a consoloation. Why? Because a few times I've been the second choice... only to find out that before six months passed, I was needed to step in where the previous person couldn't quite deliver.

Now I'm not predicting that Person ABCD is going to wash out in six months. Out of curiousity, I googled ABCD and saw that this person is quite qualified in the field we were both vying for. Person ABCD should do quite well, alas.

Still... the temptation was _so_ strong to write to Editor X:
Dear Editor X,

Thank you for your time and consideration. I wish you and ABCD the best of luck with ZYX Magazine. I trust that ABCD's drinking problem has been licked by now, and I assure you that, despite what you may have heard, for someone who lies as much as ABCD, he (of she) doesn't miss as many deadlines as you'd think.

Thanks again!

heh... but I'd never do something like that. I _did_ write to Editor X and thanked him or her for their time, and asked that I be kept in mind for future projects.

Always the professional... that's me!

The Paul Frees book is _so_ close to being done... I can taste it!

And today's link goes to The Flame Warriors! Check out all your favorite online (particularly Usenet) stereotypes in comic form.

Enjoy!
