Music: The Pogues TV/Movie: purloined Futurama season 5 eps. Link o' the Day: photojournal of a woman who travelled through Chernobyl on a motorcycle So a weird thing happened to me last night/this morning. I woke up, as I tend to do, and went through my whole morning routine. I finished up, as I tend to do, by checking the morning’s e-mail. Then my eye falls upon the little clock on the lower-right of the screen. It’s only 2:58 AM. WTF? Somehow, my brain betrayed me. I was tempted to stay up and perhaps write, but I was reeling too much from my revelation that the only thing I could see myself doing was crowding my way back into bed for another hour or so. I mean… yeah, I’m an early riser. I can’t sleep past 6:30 on weekends, but 2:58? No. No. No. Back to bed I went, tired and confused, like George W. Bush’s sense of decency. * * * My mystery rolls along. I’ve changed a couple of premises which will work better. Hmm… I know practically nothing about the short fiction mystery market. The only two magazines I ever read (and even then, only occasionally) are Alfred Hitchock and Ellery Queen. We have a couple of rumpole omnibuses at home, and I’ve one collection of Christmas-themed mysteries. New territory, although it seems that SF writers cross genres a lot. Mike Resnick and barry Longyear have both wandered into mystery. Laura Resnick and Team Lee & Miller shuffle into romance from time to time. William Nolan has written western and horror pieces. We’ll see how this goes. I’ve written one horror story already (not yet sold) and have another half-written. I know nothing about romance, so that genre is safe from me. And I pity any reader who has to read a western written by me. The only thing I know about horses is which end not to stand next to if it’s been eating beans. * * * Today’s link is an interesting one, I think. It’s a photojournal of a woman who travelled through Chernobyl on a motorcycle. She talks about the disaster there, the death toll, and the ghost towns. Worth checking out. Cheers!
