Music: random bluegrass TV/Movie: Crybaby Link o' the Day: recipe for Rhode Island Clam Cakes. A pretty decent weekend for the most part. For the most part. I was lazy most of the day yesterday--too humid and wet to want to do anything, and then around 5 I got hit with a migraine that pretty much put me out for the rest of the day, although I did manage to make a really nice batch of Rhode Island-style clamcakes. I haven't made those since high school summers working at a snack shack on Misquamicut Beach. Saturday was a pretty awesome day, tho. Pretty Maggie and I went to the annual Music at Brennan's Farm Pig Roast. These two guys throw this big bash every year for local musicians--mostly the folk variety--and we descend armed with guitars, banjo, fiddles, mandolins and the like. I've gone in past years with my mandolin, bodhran and tenor banjo. This year I brought along the five-string banjo as well. It looked like the gray skies were going to keep people away, but once it looked like it was just going to be gray--without actual rain--more folks began showing. I moved around to a couple of different circles playing different sets of tunes. Old Time, Bluegrass, and Irish. At the informal bluegrass circle I played along with the five string--my first time playing with other musicians. (Actually, that's a lie, I played it with some friends last year who were doing 12-bar blues jams. I almost forgot.) Anyway, it was a very forgiving circle as my five-string playing sucks. The Irish circle was more my expertise and I played there for an hour or two. Twas lots of fun, met some great people. (The pig was good too.) Weird, tho. I got a lot of compliments on my right-hand technique. My right-hand technique essentially sums up as "for God's sake... keep up!" Well, that's my opinion, anyway. Others seemed to think I was doing something right. On purpose. Like I said. Weird. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The next issue of the SFWA Bulletin is well underway. There are some really great articles coming up. Too many, in fact. I think a number will have to wait for the next issue. It will definitely be an issue to keep an eye open for. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Today's link goes to the site with the recipe for Rhode Island Clam Cakes. It's pretty easy. Pretty common ingredients. I took the time to use fresh chives and I think it was the wisest choice. Give it a try! Cheers! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
