Music: Violent Femmes TV/Movie: Don Rickles: Mr. Warmth Link o' the Day: the classic Richard Linklater movie Slacker at Hulu.com It's just going to be a shortish entry today. As far as productivity went, it wasn't one of my better days. Part of the problem was waiting for materials to come in. They have, but late. Tomorrow will be much more busy. So today, instead of sitting by the computer most of the day, I went down to the jewelers where I bought Pretty Maggie's bracelet and had the clasp fixed. I dropped by Borders as well and picked up The Android's Dream by John Scalzi and Miles Errant, an omnibus of Miles Vorkosigan stories, by Lois McMaster Bujold. I had the individual books that appear in the omnibus, but they'e so tattered and worn from re-readings that it was time to get a new edition. Last week I mentioned that I was going to learn to play "Them Golden Slippers" to go along with "Ashoken's Farewell." I've got the latter down cold. With "Slippers" though I had some trouble finding the music. It wasn't at my usual go-to site, so I had to look around for it, then other stuff got in the way. But today I finally tackled it and it's a pretty easy tune. I pretty much have it memorized. I'll definitely have it down for Sunday night's session. I also found music for "Hag at the Churn". Pretty easy too. Like I said--short entry today. But today's link is a good one. I've mentioned Hulu.com as being a great site to find full length feature movies and television shows. I've learned that they've recently added the classic Richard Linklater movie Slacker to its site. This is a must-see for you GenX folks--particularly early GenX. Well...okay, to be honest, it probably won't be for everyone. It's pacing can be slow at times, and the subject matter will make some people go, "who cares?" But that's also kind of the point. I can't tell you how many people I recognized in this movie as folks from my own life--and maybe even myself in spots. It's also a notable movie as being the film that inspired Kevin Smith to take a shot at low-budget indie film making to create Clerks. So yeah, it's relevant. Cheers!
