I have a new favorite work-lunch place. One on One Bike Studio on Washington Avenue.

My usual, Marysburg Books, has been closed for the last week. I'm not sure why. Their website seems to indicate they are still a full functioning cafe, book store, music venue whatever. But their shades have been drawn and the neon "Open" light has been off since last Monday. Sad!

But this has forced SL and me to broaden our horizons. I went to One on One last year with an old friend from architecture school. I didn't understand how it worked, though. It's a cafe, but it's also a bike store. They had sandwiches to go in a deli case and a drink menu but I didn't understand what my options were for lunch. I got a sandwich that had onions in it and I was so disappointed. I made a huge crumbly mess of my sandwich trying to get the onions off. Add to that the boy I was with and the whole lunch was kind of a disaster. (I had a huge crush on this boy during school. Now he's in grad school at MIT so obviously I was nervous and wanted him to think I was as funny and smart as ever.)

On Wednesday of this week SL and I ventured the 3 block walk to One on One. She used to eat there regularly so she knew the ropes more than I did. The guy behind the counter was still making sandwiches so we got to pick what we wanted. I opted for ham, swiss, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and mustard on a croissant. Their croissants are seriously so good. Seriously. OMG. It was heaven on a sandwich. We sat at one of the small tables and savored our lunch. Mmmmm...

Yesterday, Thursday, we went back. I couldn't resist the thought of another yummy croissant. The sandwiches had already been made though. I thought the guy was joking when he told us he couldn't make us a sandwich and pointed to the deli case. :( Sad! Luckily there was exactly what I wanted already made. Except it had onions. But they were tiny and I picked them off with ease. And since he had finished making them only a short while before, the onion flavor didn't have time to soak into everything and ruin the sandwich. (I really dislike onions.) It was awesome again.

We went back again today. We timed it perfectly! All the croissants were cut with lettuce on them ready for custom making! I got ham and swiss again. OMG it was SO good again.

I heard they have good soups. Once I get sick of eating ham and swiss croissants I will try some out. I should mention the sandwiches are all $5.50 which is pretty great.

Also, they sell bikes. :)
