So many people have told us to make sure we don't stay quiet when Roman is sleeping; he will be able to sleep through things better if he gets used to noise. Yeah, great idea in theory...

Today he had to go to the dentist with me because Doug couldn't get the morning off. His naptime was then later, and it wasn't until five to 11 that I finally put him in the crib. He cried a little as usual, but then fell asleep. At seven past 11, our cuckoo clock went off (it's slow). Immediately after, the phone rang. Roman woke up screaming his head off. After I got off the phone I went up to soothe him and calm him down. Even after I left again, he screamed for a good 10 minutes, and has been crying for another 5.

Yeah, get him used to noise. That would work if we didn't have a small house, maybe? If he cries much longer, it will be close to lunchtime and then he'll be hungry, and we can say "bye bye" to any sort of nap this morning! And he's so much fun when he hasn't slept.
(I hope you hear the sarcasm dripping from those words.)
