Working on: doing everything possible while Roman is napping.
--------------------------------- This month brings back-to-school thoughts with it. Specifically, I return to West officially at 9am the 24th to do my volunteering assignment of handing out new schedules to 7th graders. I love picking on the new ones. :) Next week I do my 2nd seminar on American History. This year we concentrate on "Post War America"; for middle schoolers, the development of the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution, & also the Reconstruction Era. For high schoolers, the age I like to call "it seemed like nothing happened" (1920s) and also the 1950s-70s. So here are the catchy questions & deeper subjects of which we will delve into: "Did the Constitution go too far, or not far enough?" (Slavery and the Constitution - subquestion being, "why the need for a "more perfect union"?) "Was radical Reconstruction even radical?" (Amendments and African-Americans, impeachment of Andrew Johnson, subquestion being, "how do you end slavery when the Constitution protects private property?") "What is our place in a democracy?" (1920s culture and Harlem Renaissance) "Happy Days or Anxious Days?" (Riots of '67, Hippies & the New Left) I am quite excited to be thinking intelligently again. Have a lot of reading this week to prep for this; will, of course, stimulate on-line brains as I go through it. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
