Today I went into "my office" (cubby, third of a room, whatever) at school to clean out some files and make room for the 8th grade files I must soon retrieve from storage. I came across a blurb about Constitution Day. Vaguely recalling some sort of law-making about this day, I dug deeper.
First shock: did you know that there is an Office of Innovation and Improvement in the Dept. of Education? That seems like an oxymoron, don't you think? Second shock: I have to teach about the Constitution on Constitution Day. Meaning I have to stop teaching about the American Revolution to talk about the Constitution, which we will study in the next unit anyway. Hmm. They will also be training & educating all Federal employees on the Constitution. Hmm. But, at least some people have embraced their patriotism with full force. If this could work, it would be really, really cool. Especially the bells part. On the other hand, the website says that George Washington fought the Revolution from Valley Forge.
