Working on: trying to fight off a cold? infection? sinus problem?

Thursday was relatively quiet at work, so I thought the worst was over. Oh, no, no, no... on Friday all h*&% broke loose. Two fights in the eighth grade! We usually have, maybe, two a YEAR. And of course, two of my darlings were involved.

The first involved a stinker I had last year, who threw an ice cream shake at an African-American boy in the cafeteria, getting his hair all yucky. It was in corn rows... I can't even imagine the work it will take to get it out. Well, the A-A boy smacked the first, who promptly fell to the ground in a "victim position" so as not to get in trouble... so the A-A boy decided it was a good time to kick him in the head and start punching him. Terrific. The A-A boy is one of mine.

Then at the lockers after lunch, two other boys started verbally attacking each other and slamming their locker doors toward each other. They didn't want to physically punch each other, I think, but they were threatening... anyway, one of them slammed a locker door toward the other, the boy moved, and the corner of the locker door hit a girl in the side of the face. One of those boys is one of mine, too.

So... coincidence that stress levels and anger are high during the second week of MEAP state testing? I personally don't think so...
