Woodstock's Blog
Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Changes on the Way

The instructor in one of my recent writing classes encourages all of us to:(1) Have a blog. (2) Check twitter at least once a day, at the same approximate time each day. (3) Respond to comments on the blog; reply to tweets; and retweet items which you think might intrigue those who follow you on twitter.

All of the above actions which he feels can contribute to the task of creating and building a market for one's efforts as a writer. It's all probably good advice, and some of it even sounds like fun.

The blog, of course, would be in my own name, not in a nickname, a pen name, or a nom de internet. I've been writing here as Woodstock since the fall of 2006. In my early posts, I explained where the nickname came from and why I enjoyed using it. I was also a little wary of too much easily identifiable information being out there in the broad light of day, and as the months went by, I realized that I found some freedom in using a nickname. Woodstock is a little gutsier than A is, she doesn't hesitate to express some opinions that A might keep to herself.

So - where do I go from here?

I find I am rather protective of this blog, I'm not going to stop writing for it. And I hope, also, to pick up the pace a little. This past year especially, too often I've let several weeks go by before I popped up with something to say. It's hard to come up with a reason why the long silent periods occurred. I do regret them.

So the new blog will be on a new platform. I've downloaded WordPress. My inner geek will need to make a pot of extra strong coffee to get that up and running. I've also looked at Tumblr and Google's Blogger. I'm trying to evaluate all of them. The big advantage to WordPress is that the writing center at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop here in Denver uses that program, and I would have an occasional opportunity to write for that and have something of mine be visible to a huge group of people that currently have never heard of me.

So stay tuned. I will let you all know when the new platform, whatever it is, is ready to go. A good friend (who will recognize herself) simply would not take "no" for an answer back in 2006, and more or less required me to start this blog. I began creative writing classes in the fall of 2010, primarily for something different to do after Mr. Woodstock died. I had no larger motive than something to fill up some time. I was a little surprised to find myself liking it and responding to the challenge of becoming a better writer.

So I haven't gotten in to all this kicking and screaming exactly, perhaps a better image would be opening a door and being startled at what was waiting for me on the other side.
