Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Weather

It's cold in Denver. Nighttime lows below zero since sometime Wednesday evening, and daytime highs varying between six and ten above. This is very unusual for us. In the 35 years plus I've lived here, I can only recall five or six cold snaps this extreme. I've seen graphics depicting wind patterns, and on Wednesday, the airflow was heading directly south from the far northern regions of Canada and the Arctic straight toward us. Brrr!

We've had a little snow with it, but the air is quite dry, so it truly is the "champagne powder" you hear about in ads for ski resorts located in the Rockies just to the west of us.

Yesterday and today, we had quite a bit of sunshine, which operated to dry off most roads, so driving isn't bad. Something went awry with the electric windows in my car - I couldn't get them to go down at all last night, but today they are back to normal.

It's supposed to be close to freezing on Sunday. It will feel quite balmy, I'm sure.

I'm grateful for dependable shelter, and for the economic security which means I can just let the thermostat do its thing without worrying about next month's bill.
