Step 2 in Field Trip Logistics

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Today I collected all the payments for the field trip from my students. I also got their waiver forms.

As usual, despite having announced it several weeks in advance, there were still some students who have not had their permits signed. So I had to do my usual spiel that they could follow on the waiver as long as they gave the payment today.

Again not surprisingly, there was the add-on question if they could still hand in their payment next week.

Makes me wish I could have a way to disseminate all this information to the students, and then blame them for not reading it. Group text?

Afterwards, with only thirty minutes consumed I started the discussion on two of the last four questions on the zodiac constellation calendar, which I emphasized will be included in the exam Friday after next.

For the hour-and-a-half class though, I discussed all four questions.

There were no arguments when I said that if they show the time and direction alignments, they could get partial points even if their final answer is incorrect. If pressed, I would have said they couldn't use their sliding papers because notes could be written there about the other topics in the exam.

There was only a slight snafu with photocopying the sample column sheets. I told the 1030am class to leave the papers with the operator after getting their copies. The 1250pm class said there were no papers left with the operator. They had to do with no sample sheets for the whole discussion, and had to rely on the one projected on the whiteboard. Afterwards, they just photocopied the transparency.

So I had to print another copy for use in my 230pm class, which was in another building after all.

Next time I'll probably just ask the class secretary in advance to get the papers from me so that they could have them reproduced for the whole class in time for the lecture.
