Mood: Promising to Do Better Next Term Read/Post Comments (0) |
2005-12-17 11:47 AM What The Teacher Learned This Term Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Because of the news I revealed in the student version, I guess I will have to cram all the news for the rest of the term here. In my Interfacing Computer Systems class, because they will only have one grade for both the lecture and lab classes, I used the two sessions of the final exam to divide their test into the hardware and the software parts, with the software part first. I gave them three questions or program tasks that they were supposed to answer, with all the previous materials open for them to peruse, as long as there was no sharing of papers. I didn’t think what I gave them was too difficult as they were all variations of experiments we had already performed in class. Same with the hardware part the next day. The only regret I had is that the two parts weren’t related. I couldn’t give them circuit questions that are connected to what I asked them the day before, because it would be too easy and they would have had time to think of how to answer them. The Manual Drafting finals I have already detailed in the student version. Only two people failed in my subjects this term, both in Manual Drafting and both freshmen that I want to see the consequences of their actions – or inactions. They both had at least three absences each, which is already excessive, not taking into account the fact that they missed a total of ninety points of plates during that time, which was why they failed. In my mechanics lecture, the highest grade I gave was one point five (and only to two students), but no one failed. I wanted to reflect their performance for the second half of the term there, and hope they would do better in their next major classes that are in the same vein. Also, two students took special finals with me because of being absent on the scheduled tests. And they were the ones who approached me about it, instead of me having to remind them. In a way that’s good. Session 911 exceeded the maximum allowable number of absences. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
