Students Should Know Second Chances Aren't As Easy As The First

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

On the third day of finals week for this third term, as I mentioned yesterday, I had at the start the second batches of my general science requirement mechanics lab class finals, and the same with my Introduction to Robotics classes.

Starting with the second first, their questions consisted of asking for their design drawing and program for the maze traversing robot, then asked about a tilt correcting robot (which they watched on the video of last year’s competition and that no one this year emulated – but more on that when I talk about the final competition in the student edition) and of the collision avoidance robot from last year also. The bonus question was about the strengths and weaknesses of their stair ascending and descending robot.

Those who did take the Robotics exam (and as usual asked the previous test takers about their questions) said that the second batch was more difficult. Of course, I could have told them, it always is because of the assumption of learning from the first batch.

As for the lab class, their exam was all computations, just like one of the two equal weight questions I had my students from last term pick from for their lab finals.

As usual, the student I was talking about yesterday, Mr. Ephraim, complained, or adapted that sad face I had seen him use since the first term when (even though he was not my student) I saw him begging Religion and NSTP teacher Ronnie in the faculty room for a higher grade.

It’s sad that instead of putting all that effort during finals, he just doesn’t perform better all throughout the term, just like his group mates, whose diligence unfortunately doesn’t rub off onto him, just like it didn’t on the grasshopper hanging around the ant.

He even tried to say I went back on my word during the practical exam about what the finals was about, when what I promised was fulfilled with the first batch.

Anyway, I put him to task on that, and it shut him up for a while, until someone started complaining about the lack of formulas given and comparing it to the lecture class.

Session 1083 complains too. Class dismissed.
