Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I was talking about the “extracurricular” activity the college teachers have of needing to go to college orientations in outside high schools. I said before that I felt that the organizers of what they call a convocation were a bit ticked off that someone from higher up (our brother president) had somehow twisted their arm into accommodating our request for a talk at the last minute, so soon after they had already set the first one with the schools they decided should be invited. So they probably had an idea that our school is scrounging just to be able to grab this opportunity, and if they had told us we needed to stand on our heads for half an hour for the privilege, we would have done it. They did something almost as cruel. They reset the schedule from 1pm of Monday to 8am, informing us (at least me) on late Friday afternoon. This was after I had already set that we had time on Monday morning for all the preparations before leaving the campus. Now we not only had to wake up at an ungodly hour to be able to make it there, we also had to make all of our preparations during the weekend to be ready to haul into the vehicle at around sunrise Monday. I tried to tell the person in charge about the difficulty we were facing with the preparation, and she repeated in her multi-part text about how the brother president had done “us” a favor – not that I needed to be reminded, it's not like I forgot that part already – as if that was the main point about how we MUST push through. That's why on Saturday afternoon, after my students' exam, we went to the robotics lab to prepare, just to find out that the technician did not leave all the keys to the lockers where they could be used, but inside his personal drawer. What's worse was that according to my engineering co-teachers when we tried to contact them, he had no mobile phone number at all to speak of. Not mindful of even the remote possibility of emergencies when he needs to be reached, it seems. Session 1281 was told to jump, and tells the other volunteers how high. Class dismissed.
