Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. No comment yet from the acting dean about the form I made two days ago that the students have to fill out if they want to have the schedule of their upcoming classes changed. This is so that they don't go to the dean directly, but through the teacher, so that the teachers themselves don't get surprised when the schedule that they thought was finalized the week before the classes gets changed without their knowledge. In the form the student has to give the reason for the change, if it is a conflict with another subject. There is also a blank if they want to have the days and times changed for another reason. I will let the students' imagination run wild with that one. I'm sure they will surprise and entertain us, just like the ailments that they list down in the clinic. They have to attach a photocopy of their academic advising form and their enrollment form, the second just to see what other subjects will not be overlapping – in other words their vacant periods. The first is to see if the subject was listed in their academic advising during the tenth week of the previous term, which will be given priority to those who are just asking for a change of schedule to add a subject. There have already been rumblings of students who are planning to do this in the coming weeks. Under terms and conditions, the students also have to sign under the note that says they will accept it if the teacher denies their request if it was not in their original advising form. Each student who is requesting for a change has to fill up a form. If it's the entire class that's asking, they all have to pass forms, just to show them that they cannot just approach the dean with such a request anymore without formality. Is that where the word “form” came from, as a shortcut to bureaucracy and formality? The teacher also has to attach this to the permanent schedule change form, along with the signatures of the other students in the class to agree that they are OK with the change. I don't think it will discourage the students to ask for a change of schedule, it will just be more documented when they do so, and thus a semblance of organization is maintained. Session 1609 wants requests to the dean to be enacted posthaste without consultation with the other people concerned. Class dismissed.
