Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. One student yesterday was pestering my co-teacher in the faculty room to pass her in their lecture class because she had complete notes. I would have told her that she's not being graded for having all the material but for knowing how to use the material and proving so in the exams. @@ In my Introduction to Robotics class, only three of the five groups passed their projects, maybe because the two other groups are composed mainly of computer science students who probably have their own problems right now. It's their initiative to find out what happened to our competition which was supposed to be scheduled for Thursday last week anyway, before classes were suspended. They'll find out the day after the competition, when they have their written exam. This is where I will find out who are the ones who have been working on the projects enough to retain some knowledge they are supposed to demonstrate. @@ Going back to the actions of a certain student yesterday, the students who were also there confirmed my perceptions of his attitude. They say this might be the product of his former high school, that when he approached the teachers there they would praise him for being inquisitive and just give him the answers he needs. And seeing how he probably felt good about it, he did it often enough to become a habit until now. Or it could be that even his teachers back then couldn't tolerate his insensitivity to how selfish he was anymore, that they just gave him what he wanted so that he would go away, and he was content with that. Well, he's not in high school anymore, and he doesn't get points for pure inquisitiveness, especially if it comes with that attitude of expecting to get answers. There isn't even any respect for the teacher in his tone! He gets points for getting the answers himself, and not bragging about it when telling the teacher. Or maybe that's the way he treats his scientist parents at home and he can't accept any other method, since he not only gets squat results otherwise, but he rubs people the wrong way. Session 1777 want grades for what they have achieved even if it's not what the teacher asked. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
