2007-08-21 11:50 AM Maybe Students Don't Get Scared Enough to Change Until The Teacher Shows Anger Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. For my Introduction to Robotics class, I just told them to submit their robots at the end of the day, and indicate which program number is for offense and which one is for defense. This is because they actually don't have to be present for the final competition itself. I really don't want a repeat of the last time where there were people interfering manually with the workings of their robot. I also don't want to hear anymore whinings from people like Ephraim about how their robot is actually great and should have won in this or that round. I will just have someone present with a camera to be able to record their wins and losses. Now, I will be talking about a certain student again, even though he is not in any of my classes this term. This is because earlier, he approached one of my co-teachers about a project proposal of his. He was already told to just submit a soft copy of his report. This was not enough for him though, as he still had to tell the teacher what he considered to be the highlights of his report, and what certain things that he needed to be able to proceed, which from previous experience, I knew that he expected to be given to him without question instead of researching himself. No matter how long he talked though, the teacher's response was still the same, asking for something basic that he had not provided with is report: the circuit design. And he was talking about something as outrageous at putting eight thousand thermocouples in series just because he had 220 volts to use up. And he was telling the teacher that it was impractical. Then maybe he should not have proposed it in the first place. I still believe that when it comes to projects like this, that he is coming from a background at home of having is every experimental whim given to him, without consideration to if it's been done before, or eventual usefulness, or expense. Session 1775 has had it up to here with stubborn students. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
