Mood: Still Rubbed the Wrong Way Read/Post Comments (0) |
2007-08-20 5:55 AM Inconsistent Lecture and Lab Subject Policies Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. In the past few days it has become more difficult to write here than in the student accessible version, because there are not always "controversial" angles to every story that appears there. In fact, I'd prefer it if I could tell all sides of an event there instead of having to keep some from the knowledge of the students. But aside from trade secrets, such as when to give what type of exam, there are certain things that if the students found it, would make them cry "foul" even though in the long run it would make them develop better working habits they could use in their jobs. Another part of the problem about what to write is that there has been absolutely nothing happening in the class front, even today: I don't have any make up sessions scheduled. I've gotten my schedule for finals, where I have one I have to proctor for one teacher, and for one subject (Assembly language) I have the lecture and lab exams one after the other, for which I will just give the students one exam for the whole two periods given. One aside here that I could say is that someone, presumably the head of the registrar's office, asked me if she should just give me one exam for both the lecture and the lab subject. I would have agreed, but the problem is: [a] this is not the way it has been done before, [b] what if the teacher for both subjects are different; does there have to be more coordination between them or is this an option only for subjects where the teacher is the same - even if for students' evaluation, they only give one evaluation for both subjects even if the teachers are different, and [c] I happen to have one subject now where, unlike what was decreed by the administration before, there are some regular students decreed by their flowchart to take the lecture subject (computer engineering) but they are not taking up the lab subject (but their ECE batch mates are), so of course I cannot give the same exam for both. Lab will have to be separate. I'm also thinking if the finals schedule for the lab can be used for the practical exam itself, or if I can just use it to let them finish their project, just like in the other major laboratory subjects they have whose finals are also projects. Session 1773 somehow filled one day's entry with rambling. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
