Students Also Should Be Careful What They Wish Of A Teacher

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Last Wednesday morning I had the first of my three exams for this finals period.

It was for Computer Architecture. The exam was open books, and, just like the request of one of the students (although I did not tell him when he asked that I would agree) the questions were also from the book, but of course, not ones with answers in the back.

I only had two questions, both of which were to design relatively mid-level complexity systems. All that time until the very end they maintained their "resolve" not to ask me anything.

Well, any decent questions that is. The same slacker who I denied access to my book to before because he was asking for it on the day of the submission of the problem set, when it was given fully one week prior, asked if I could accept simpler answers.

Like, a programming (software) design instead of hardware made.

As if that was what the subject taught - and not relying on stock knowledge.

All the pertinent inquiries were reserved for the last fifteen minutes of the exam period, when what I gave them - even though it led down the path to the correct answer - obviously they could not finish in the time we had remaining.

So it was clear from their attitude as they passed their paper that they were not able to finish. I gave them another chance though.

I told them that they could submit the answers to the same questions as a class after two days. And I told them to be honest in not putting in the names of those who did not contribute to the answer.

They agreed - as if they would reject that opportunity. But so far, I have not received anything from them today, and it's already Friday.

Session 1945 expects to copy and paste answers if the exam is open book. Class dismissed.
