Academic: Conflicts of Vision in Several Levels

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

This is now where I will reveal the big news I talked about in the student accessible edition, considering I won't be able to see my "weekend" friends this weekend due to the college retreat this term.

The brother president has just sent an e-mail to all the college faculty saying that the dean since May has requested for a non-renewal of his contract at the end of the school year.

He has also not been answering any questions from the faculty who found out about it yesterday, and he's leaving today for a four day trip abroad, which will have the whole campus abuzz with more speculation as to his reasons in his absence.

As for me, I have mixed emotions about it. For one thing, that means hopefully no more hesitation on the part of the new dean against instituting minor offenses on student violations.

That also means I will probably be more free with the direction of my career than I currently have been (shades of having recently read this ) than just going on unpsoken gratitude for someone who played Moses and parted the red tape from one path I had decided to abandon.

No more micromanagement. No more being shunted off committees I would like to be a part of (despite it being volunteer basis for everyone else) just because it has been deemed that I have "too much on my plate" yet other work gets sent my way.

No more seeing other teachers get praised in memos for something they absolutely did not do, or were only marginally involved in but gets their egos inflated nonetheless.

Oh, who am I kidding. This is great news for me, although I can't do cartwheels about it in the present atmosphere - not that I can do cartwheels at all in the first place - except that's how I feel.

Session 2021 is tempted to play hooky believing there will be no more long term consequences. Class dismissed.
