Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. As promised, this is my full blown rant on the slackers who attended the retreat last weekend, who have put the school in a bad light yet again. First of all, they all "planned" to attend this retreat together, since they were too lazy to sign up during the first two and the religion teacher was kind enough to allow them to go. That just added to their attitude, that they were all together and validating each other about their shared "bad" experiences. There was also the fact that they brought bags for a week's worth - except that I assume most of the stuff in their bag was for three days' consumption. When I did call them from their room after they were late, one of them looked at the posted schedule and "convinced" the others to go saying "it's just one hour, then lunch time". Like that's a good perspective of life to have, thinking of the period between breaktimes as a hassle but to be endured for the stops. When they talked about what made the school memorable for them, half of what they mentioned were the times they hanged out with each other, and not once did they talk about an academic experience in a positive light, but about their friend who got kicked out or taking a certain subject several times. When they talked about one of the eateries near the school, they couldn't even mention its full name, which was in the vernacular, but had to call it "Rice & U", just the initial, in front of everyone. Way to not bridge the gap you've made. And, of course, despite there being set groups for sharing and the performances, they still went with their cliques, and the few times they did share with the others, it was on the promise that it would only take "ten minutes, tops". DEEP sharing, that. Session 2033 for the first time will make counterpoints to the bad evaluation of the retreat given. Class dismissed.
