Mood: Letting Them Struggle Read/Post Comments (0) |
2008-03-18 9:14 AM Academic/Personal: So Much For Not Resisting Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. If and when I write a fleshed out end to end story one day, one of the candidates I have for the topic would be how the behavior of superiors (parents, teachers, bosses) get picked up by their underlings (kids, students, employees) either out of admiration, subconsciously or even subliminally. Case in point: the students here not knowing how to respect a brother, as shown by the previous dress code "forum" where it was the freshmen, (threatened in their comfort zone as the brother president said it) who were making different philosophical appeals to him to let them wear what they wanted, not knowing he would recognize the shift from different arguments to pity and supposed independence and freedom. Apparently they get it from their teachers, who did not get it either when the outgoing dean said when talking about backing off from ramming heads with the president: "he's a brother". Now, due to the lack of movement with regards to the new dean, some faculty are resisting the decision of the board of trustees to look for someone outside. They want to protect their permanencies against a stranger (who would not be picked in the first place if it were someone not familiar with academic politics) who might - just might - make them work more. They're going to have another meeting later, which I cannot attend anymore because as I've said before it's been three weeks since I last met this class due to these emergency meetings. Besides, I know it will be more roundabout than usual just because it's only the faculty attending, with no dean to control their talking. We'll see how well they'll get something concretized by themselves. In other news, the dean responded to the letter requested yesterday where I detailed my plan of study with a note of renewal, talking about my "letter for request of extension". As Paul Simon said, a man sees what he wants to see. Session 2077 believes all employees love working at that office until told bluntly otherwise. Class dismissed.
