A/P: A Career In Not Like A Movie with a Third Act Turnaround

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Again the topic that I could have written here about students and their never-ending acts of desperation on course card distribution day has been put in the student accessible version.

Not that it will probably reach the notice of the people concerned, but at least I've spoken out about it and it's on the record.

I just wish there were more faculty who would not give these kinds of opportunities to students, because if there are lazy teachers who just come up with something haphazardly put together to present to their class per session (or even frequently pass on the duty of teaching to the students) then the students who subconsciously pick up on that and emulate it, deciding that these teachers are now their (bad) idols.

The teachers should also give more progress report assignments to the students on their "big" projects, such that those who spread out their work throughout the term are more rewarded with higher grades than those who just take one or two sleepless nights before the deadline to finish it.

In fact, they shouldn't even be given as major requirements at all, but as smaller chucks of tasks whose deadlines are every two weeks or so, because this gives the student the proper work ethic that will benefit them in their other subjects and at work.

There should be fewer all-or-nothing projects (better if none at all) because again, that keeps the students in a fantasy setting that never appears when they're about to be kicked off a job for poor performance; there's no "okay, complete this one extra assignment for me and you won't get fired", because the new graduate has to make consistent satisfactory work all of the time so as not to beg laid off; there can't be a "one last chance to make up" every evaluation period.

Again this goes back to the unrealistic emulation of work situations that are being practiced now in college, which should be changed.

Session 2121 imagines a game show at each session to make if fun, even if the students don't learn anything useful for future success. Class dismissed.
